I realised how much my online activities have changed since Christmas and the new computer.
Three major things I have done online have either wound down or stopped altogether.
First of all I have not gone to Bob's Freebie Forum, a place I used to spend hours on since mid December. Its a place I talked on with others and on with others for hours a day and where I was one of the top posters. I have trailed off posting there over last year. My most heavy posting periods were over 2003 and 2004. 2005 had its ups and downs periods but since I got my job last year I was only averaging a few posts a day. I hope do not lose all ties with the place. I have some very good friends there so I shall try and go back even if only to visit every few days.
Next something that dominated my last year big-time was playing online Command and Conquer Generals. Up until Christmas and a fair bit after until I came home I was playing this many hours a night and was the top girl player of it. But after I got home I have not played it once. I would have thought with a more powerful computer to play it I would be on it more but I guess I had played it so much it lost some of its appeal also other reasons mean I have not been I will state later. I hope to play this again more but it may be awhile. Like with Aliens vs Predator which I once played a huge amount I am starting to move away from it.
And last night I stopped player Earth 2025 a online turn base game which I have played a few years. I had little interest over the last year. And I was not supporting my clan in the way they needed to be so I made my last set the last.
I am a little sad to leave these three things behind but as well as just having played or used them for such a long time another big factor is the cause and that is
Second Life. I got this January last year but frankly though I was impressed with what I had seen at the time I first had problems running it because I was on dial-up then it was not much better when I got broadband because my old computer could barely handle it. So I only came on it every now and then. Since I got my imac I have been on it loads. Early January after I got home I started playing it and got hooked big time and I am on it probably at least 6 hours a night.
Now I often get hooked by things and will spend a few months on them more than anything else. Then these things either fade away or settle into something more balanced. I think second life will. Like with mushes I love using it and being creative and socialising and it dominates my online at the moment but I think in a few months I will settle down a little and though I will be on it a few hours a night I will once again branch back out more into some of the other things I like doing online more.
