Second Life

That harlot robynz has got me addicted to something called Second Life.

It is basically a large virtual reality chat world and for those familiar with mushes it is in many ways a graphics based virtual version of a mush. I guess another way of looking at it is it is to a mmorpg as a mush is to a mud. A large detailed world only you do not have to engage in combat and training etc. You just create your avatar and clothing and go out into the world.

The avatar creation is very good. Frankly I was expecting something as basic as say the sims. But no this is far far more detailed and goes into every fine detail. You can change anything even go as far as to choosing the slant of your forehead etc so a very very good avatar creation.

Unfortunately I am running this on an old computer and on a very slow internet connection so when creating my character it lagged a lot changing the options and often would go to more extremes as I would click several times on a setting and then wait a minute or so for it to change. So my avatar basically ended up with over large breasts and makeup done a little more like a whores lol. I was trying to base my avatar a little on me but I guess I ended up with a version of me if I had had a breast job and if I applied my makeup sluttily. Oh well. One thing I did take the extra time to try and get more right was my butt. It was absolutely huge. I managed with frustration to get its size down but still not perfectly happy with it. I expect avatar creation is far easier with someone who has a computer with more processing power than mine and a faster internet connection.

Later I met up with robynz and she gave me a load of clothes to wear. I though I could quickly strip off my clothes and wear some of the new sets but to my extreme embarrassment I took the clothes off but then could not wear anything else. I tried for ages whilst others laughed at me. As only adults can go on second life the avatar really is that detailed, when you are naked you are naked. After a reboot I managed to get some clothes on but still was having problem chopping and changing.

I can see myself getting really addicted to this. It actually reminds me of one of the things that got me addicted to the net in the mid 90's. Before I had a modern PC computer I used to go to the internet cafe every week and they had on it something called Worlds chat where you took on a avatar and spoke with others on a space station. I loved this and it was one of the reasons I got my own internet connection in the end. Alas however when I got my computer and the internet in 97 I found they never did world chat for Apple. :( Second life is very similar only a good 10 years more advanced with a far huger world so i can see the same addiction I had for world chat coming over to second life.

Perhaps the only thing that will stop this is my computers slow speed making things on it frustrating.

If you are interested in joining I would love to see you there and I am sure robynz would too. You can download and signup for it at the link below. You can download it for Windows or Apple but alas they do not seem to do a version for linux. the download is between 20mb for PC and 30mb for mac. But to create an account you need a mobile (cell) phone or a credit/debit card. they wont charge you but this is to make sure you only get one account.

If you do decide to signup I would be grateful if said I referred you using my second life name which is Bliss Nephilim :)
