Twilight Tour of Terror - RPattz Q&A Dallas

Nov 12, 2008 15:43

Okay - yeah I said I'd have this up this morning but y'all I have been sooooo tired. I'm getting to old for this shit.

Here's the deal, I'm going to do a brief rundown here with a few more pics. My friend that went with me and had the video camera is coming over again in a bit and we'll get the video off her camera and edit it and get it up online most likely tomorrow (after edits and all that). I'll be posting a more detailed write up, all pics, and the vid over at RenegadeRadio.Net and I'll let you know when it's up. Yes I'm totally using the RPattz mania in hopes of driving some traffic to that site. Sue me. Once it's all up online I'll ask that you guys just point links there.

We had planned on getting back up to the mall around 4ish to get ready for the 7:30 Q&A. Which would have meant we'd have been closer and I'd have had better pics. I'm still pissed about that but - I'm a mom and kids and fam come first so we didn't get to leave until 5ish. By the time we got there that crowd was huge but again I have to say I'm proud of the Dallas group. No one was pushing and shoving and everyone was pretty calm. The Galleria is a huge mall and they had the stage set up right in the middle down on the very bottom floor on one side of an ice rink (which at the time had part of the massive Christmas tree they put up every year in the middle). This area is basically a big hole in the middle of the mall so you can look up it to each floor (4 total) and people were huddled against the rails all the way around. You can see a section below:

This one girl kept coming out onto the stage to tell us how much longer it would be and tell everyone that they could go nuts when he came out but then to get quiet so we could hear him. I thought "Yeah right" but people seemed to get the idea. Of course each time she started talking her mic would give off horrible feedback and so for a good thirty minutes they tried to figure out what was wrong with that. They get it fixed - they think - and here comes the man of the hour.

I swear he came out, saw the people, and thought about running.

So yes the crowd went nuts and I'm surprised the windows didn't get blown out but they finally calmed down - sort of - and the chick on stage with Robert started talking. Ok whatever they did to 'fix' the mic made it so there was no feedback but you also couldn't hear them. At all. It was like Charlie Brown's teacher talking I swear. You heard mumbled voices and that was it. Even when Robert tried yelling a bit you couldn't hear him. And he knew it. He kept laughing and throwing out his arms like 'what do we do?' but they just kept going and he kept laughing and shaking his head. I guess the people right there at the bottom by him could hear. So I have no idea what they talked about though I think at one point people were chanting at him to sing something. If he did - I didn't hear it. There was lots of the hand in his hair and making it stick up - a sure sign he's nervous - and once or twice he just sat on his heels with his hands by his mouth in apparent shock at the amount of people.

And then there were the signs:

He seemed to find those amusing at any rate. And yes there was at least one "Edward Cullen will you marry me?" to which I wanted to gag. Srsly people at least respect the fact he's not REALLY Edward, just an actor.

I'd say he was on stage no more than 15 minutes and then he was gone - nearly falling off the stage in his haste. As he passed close to some kids reaching for him he reached out and grabbed their hands and I'm surprised he didn't pull back a stump. And then he was gone and the crowd screamed some more. And the chick came back out on stage and guess what - you could hear her great now! Stupid sound techs. She said something about maybe getting an 'encore' and looked to one of the organizers who shook his head no. Honey that boy was making a run for the nearest car and gettin' the hell out of Dodge I guarantee it.

That was pretty much it. I'm sure for most people the fact that they were in the same building and able to see RPattz was more than enough but really - for all that and the short time he was there they needed to have the sound working correctly. Everyone went and piled in front of Hot Topic again for.... well to shop I guess. We chose that moment to sneak out and beat the crowds and traffic.

It was an experience I can say that and though I didn't enjoy getting soaked in the rain at 4am I'm still glad I went. Now to see what happens when the movie actually, you know, comes out.
