Things they never told you about pt school...

So I start Physical Therapy school on Monday (Finally, and EEK!)

So this last week has been a lot of buying really expensive books and waiting forever for them to come in. One of the things I had to order was an evaluation kit from APTA... it comes with a stethescope, and 4 goniometers (measure range of motion) and a theraband, and bandage scissors, and a buck hammer. And I was all like "Ooh! Neat! I'll get to test peoples reflexes."

Ha.

Ooh boy I will get to test reflexes.

The kit also comes with a book... A Quick Reference to Common Tests and Measurements in Physical Therapy

So I was flipping though all the different reflexes.. and came across this page:

My eyes bugged out a little at the Cremasteric and Bulbocavernosum reflexes...  These are things NO PHYSICAL THERAPIST EVER MENTIONED TO ME.  I have to pinch a penis?  What the hell is that?? I can't wait to find out what the hell this accomplishes.  And what worries me a little.. is that this book said  Common Tests... oh dear god.. does this mean that I'm going to have to stroke the skin of buttockes and penises, and thighs all the time?  I thought it was going to be more of patellar reflexes, and tendocalcaneus reflexes... and... stuff.   Man, when the professors said we'd get to know each other really well... they really meant really really well.

In other less terrifying news... my name now has credentials after it.  When I got my shipment from APTA, I noticed it said: Michelle Kellicker, SPT.  Student Physical Therapist.  Or as I'm lovingly refering to it: SPIT!

Aight... I'm out of here.. it's time for bed.
