Proud Sister Moment.
So Akron Feis was today. And it was pretty weird to be there and not be dancing, because Akron is my favorite feis. But anyway... so I kind of morphed from Crazed and Determined Irish Dance Competitor, to Uber Feis Sister. I made sure Vivian's wig was on right, I did her makeup, I drilled her on her steps, I was the official result checker... It was kind of fun.
Viv didn't do particularly well in the soft shoes... she didn't place at all, which was disappointing simply because she had been working hard on her reel a lot lately and it was looking much better. And then the Treble Jig came along.. and we weren't expecting anything, because she hadn't really worked on it at all and these were relatively new steps... and she did fabulous. She ended up placing third. And then her hornpipe came along, and she was the last one to go for the slow hornpipes, and in my mind there was really no one that stood out as an amazing dancer... and Viv got up there and she totally rocked out the hornpipe. There was an odd number of girls so she had to dance by herself, which meant that she had to carry the rhythm and if she wasn't totally clear on her trebles the judge would probably be able to tell... but she did great, she was the loudest out of her whole competition, and I think the only reason she got second instead of first is because she died a little bit on her second step... it wasn't as strong as the first.
So we'll see what happens tomorrow... hopefully she'll do even better at Cleveland. How cool would it be if she won first in one of her dances tomorrow? I'd be so excited for her!
And to top the day off she even thanked me for helping her. I was kind of surprised she said that.. normally she just gets mad when I help her cause she doesn't like being corrected. But I guess since she placed it was worth it. :) It was nice to be appreciated anyway.
