storyteller

Last year, in one of those moments of unexpected power that have defined my life so many times before, I randomly decided to attend a book reading on campus. A girl dragged me there to see one of her favorite authors, a man who I knew nothing of - Tobias Wolff.

The old man was there, and he read aloud several pieces he had written. His gravelly, powerful old voice gently moved past my skin and sinew and resonated deep in my bones. The stories utterly captivated me. He was incredible.

Today, I was able to find my favorite of his stories and reread it, remembering the power and weight it held when I first heard it. It's still easily one of the best short stories I have ever read.

It's called "Bullet in the Brain". It's 3 pages long. You have the time.
