Luminescence
"Look, fireflies!"
"They're beautiful."
"Did you know each species attracts mates using unique frequencies, durations, and trajectories of flashes?"
The cabin's porch swing rasped with their gentle sway.
"Spencer. Let go, just enjoy them."
"I am! I do."
With a bittersweet smile for lost youth, Gideon encircled delicate shoulders with one arm.
Reid settled his back against Gideon's side and drew his legs up, his knees undulating slightly out of sync with the swing. He did not add that some species mimic the mating dances of others, to capture and consume the misguided suitors.
Gideon shouldn't have to know that.
