Anna Nicole Smith, R.I.P.

I didn't know Anna Nicole Smith, other than a face and a body on a screen and in a magazine. I never particularly cared for her, 'though I sort of admired the way she often seemed to care so little for what others thought of the way she chose to live. I liked the fact that she was willing to put it out there, even when she wasn't the "perfect" size, according to this society's standards, and I always thought she was beautiful, even (in some ways, *especially*) when her weight was most out-of-control.

Admittedly, Anna Nicole was no Marilyn (who was?). OTOH, she was a person; a living, breathing, human, inspiring some, even as she infuriated others, and her loss is still a loss. The amount of vitriol that I've seen from some people over the publicity surrounding (and public reaction to) her death is completely out of proportion to the supposed lack of importance they seem to think should be put on her life and death.

Frankly, it sickens me. Every one of us who is taken too soon from this earth is a lessening of who we are -- even (perhaps especially) when they are people that we don't necessarily care for, personally.
