So at least occasionally I do something that I had intended to do this summer instead of lying around doing nothing. I have now accomplished my objective of hiking the long trail the two hundred and seventy five mile "footpath through the wilderness" that runs from massachusetts to Canada over all of the biggest mountains in the state, and the first long distance hiking trail in the nation. Right after I graduated high school I walked a little less than half the way up from the massachusetts border on an 11 day trip. Over these past ten days I walked the remaining distance to the canadian border, The trip was hard, due in part to my seeming need to hike 15 miles a day, but it was absolutely amazing and crazy and which I will refrain from recounting in full due to exceeding length required. Just as important as the awesome wilderness the act of just meeting random people, who were just so incredibly friendly to me. Whether it be through giving me a ride into town, or giving me food (only the greatest gift one can give a hiker), or just directions, they have restored my faith that the human race has a great many people with beautiful souls. It also reinvigorated the knowledge that the world we live in is so unbearably beautiful. A day of being assaulted by wind and rain while crossing a mountain top is just as a stunningly magnificent as just as moving as the most scenic of moutain top vistas or just walking through a typical stand of trees.
Things were also absurdly muddy given the solid month of rain Vermont has just endured, but I was lucky in that I pretty much started hiking and the rain stopped which ofcourse did include some occasional rain but for the most part was just incredibly good weather, especially since things have been a touch unseasonably cold over the time I was out, killing off mosquitoes and giving that perfect temperature for outdoor exertion where you get cold when you stop, but when your moving you're basically comfortable.
It was an epic adventure. Last night I had the greatest shower of my life, and a good nights sleep by my recent standards. but the schedule of waking up early is now so engrained into my schedule, that this morning I woke up when the sun came up. now I have about a week to pull shit together and then back to school. Merry christmas to all and to all a good night.
