Today in Freshman Colloquium we had one of the trombonists from the Cleveland Orchestra come and talk to us about his life. It was so inspiring. One of the things that he mentioned was liberal arts majors vs. math/science/medical majors. He said that liberal arts majors have to work much harder for a longer span of time to get where they want to be. He said that you don't see future engineers and scientists and doctors cramming their brains out in 7th grade just so they can have a bright future. However, people who decide to go into any form of the arts pretty much have to do that. He stated that we liberal arts majors, as well as athletes, have to be the biggest perfectionists in the world. That really stuck with me, and I have a feeling it will stick with me for the rest of my life.
