We have been discussing the substitution of animals for offerings.
The g'mara on today's daf discusses the case where an animal was
designated for a sin-offering and then lost, the owner designated
another animal instead, and then the first was found again. Which
does he bring, or does he bring both? The rabbis say he may bring
whichever one he wants -- one but not both, because the torah says
"he shall bring it" -- it, in the singular. What happens to the other
one? There is a dispute among the rabbis, some saying it is put out
to pasture (until it acquires a blemish and is thus unfit as an
offering, at which point you can eat it normally) and those who say
it is left to die (so it cannot become food). (15a)
