Mac tech support?

A few days ago (after a long time powered down followed by a recharge), my iBook started complaining that the date was wrong. I didn't do anything immediat4ely (other things to worry about). During this time, everything behaved fine.

Eventually I decided to fix it (when Firefox complained that some certificates were too new). I did so by checking the "automatically set date and time" box.

Now ssh doesn't work; it times out. It's probably not the destination, as ssh is failing to connect to two entirely different hosts. Unchecking that box didn't change anything, nor did manually rolling the date back a few years. I have not knowingly changed anything else on the machine,

I'm invoking ssh via command line (from a program called Terminal that says "welcome to Darwin" on start-up). I just tried it from xterm -- same result. I never get as far as being prompted for a password.

I did connect once from NHC before fixing the date, so it's probably not a blocked IP address or some such.

Any ideas from my readers?
