accident followup

Today I talked to the person who hit my car last week. At the time she said she wanted to settle it privately, not through insurance, which was fine with me. I don't know who your company is, or the rules of your state. My experience (as my wife has had two accidents we had to run through our company, as they were uninsured motorists, common in California), is that such accidents do not result in a raising of your rates, as they are recorded as being someone elses fault.

To give you our most recent example: My wife was in a parking lot at a mall when a Camry zoomed around a line of cars, headed by a Ford-o-saurus, to hit her rear (she was backing out). He had damage to the driver's window and supposedly cut his hand. He had no insurance info or D/L on him. We had a call within 1½ hours from the body shop wanting to know when we would be there with the cash for the damage to his car. We told him to talk to the insurance company (AAA). We never heard from him again (nor did they, to our knowledge). They judged him at fault, paid for all our repairs, with no deductable being applied.

Just my 2c.
