Our kitchen came with a wall oven, rather than a range (oven + cooktop together). And it's too small and some things don't work right, but every conversation that started with "we should replace that" ended with talk of remodeling the kitchen ( Read more... )

Yay! We're considering something similar, replacing the alcove that currently holds a microwave oven with a taller alcove that'll hold a refrigerator. Once the holiday stress and confusion are past....

Probably a free-standing pantry/cupboard/thingie. We haven't actually acquired it yet.

Sounds like awesome upgrades! My mom had that but had two wall ovens, one over the other. She never used the bottom one. Sounds like your plan works better.

Did she have two full-sized wall ovens, or was it one of those "double ovens" that's a single unit with two (smaller) sections? The manual for my oven actually covers several models, including one of those; it doesn't say what the dimensions of the double-oven unit are, but the ovens are definitely smaller. If you need to cook at different temperatures, or want to bake one thing while broil another, I can see the appeal of the double oven. Since I've never had more than one oven, I've instead learned to adapt my cooking and timing.

They were full size but not huge. She could cook a turkey in either.
