I Love You Oh So Well

So life has fallen to new lows recently. This weekend was spectacular in that I was able to volunteer on three films. However, with two four-page papers due on Tuesday, it wasn't the best idea to volunteer for three thirteen-hour work days. Tell that to my heart, which desires nothing more than the film school.
On the extreme upside, I got to be 2nd A.C. briefly on two of the productions, which means I got to be the person to "bump the slate", or clap the little sticks together after saying Scene 2, Take 1. You've all seen it in the movies; it's the stereotypical thing associated with movies. It was a big deal, though, because only film students do that job. However, with two or three volunteers to choose from, they chose me to fill in when the regular 2nd A.C. had to leave for a while.
Another great thing: Asa's shoot. I got there at 630 AM, which was a nice treat, since most of the movies require you to be on-set at 6. Anyway, I'm standing out in the cold, just relaxing for a second before everything gets all crazy, and Asa comes out and stands next to me. We're just talking, "blah, blah, blah" and then he's like, "Do you know what your official job is today?" I want to say yes, because just the night before, he told me that I was going to be the 2nd A.D. (another job usually reserved for film majors). But something tells me that's not what he's talking about, cause he's usually not forgetful. He would remember that he already told me that. So, I say "No". And then he says, "You're going to give me hugs when I need them." I was like, OH YEAH! because Asa is the best guy ever and gives excellent hugs. I still don't know why, but, while I think he needed some hugs cause he was nervous and stressed, I also think he could tell how incredibly stressed I was. I'm pretty sure he sensed that I was barely holding it together, as both Pete and Elijah picked up on it, and they don't know me as well.
Anyway, much fun was had by all on the set, but especially me. I got to be an extra which was a blast. First, my "character" got to talk to Pete's character. We all had to change clothes because we were supposed to be at a bar/club. My shirt was a size too small (it belonged to another volunteer) and Pete came out wearing this see-through black shiny-ish shirt with the collar up. (He still has on his khaki cargo shorts, white socks and work boots, by the way.) Oh good Lord, I almost killed myself laughing. Then of course, he insists on telling jokes during the take so that I could barely keep a straight face.
Other people I got to talk to as an extra: Nate Freeman from the other track, who was very nice and just as embarrassed as I was to be on film, and Stuart McAlpine, who, having finally caught up on his sleep, was in full comedy mode and just completely creeped me out by being this sleazy guy and hitting on me during the take. As soon as the camera went off, he was normal again, but I'll never look at him the same, or put myself in a dark room with him, for that matter.
It was a great day. I got to talk to Pete quite a bit, both on and off-screen. Asa gave me hugs. We had spectacular ice cream with lunch (pizza!). I got to be in a movie, and Bradford taught me all about the camera. Also, I found out Pete was a philosophy major (kinda surprised me, though I can't say why) and Elijah was a lit. major (you could've knocked me over with a feather!). At the end, I left like I always do, but it was the last day. No more sets, no more Faith, no more Amy, no more Erika, Stuart, Brad, Bradford, Asa, Pete, Elijah, no more anybody. They were all so awesome, so it's super depressing. I can admit I have a touch of the hero worship, but I really truly (i think) was friends with some of them (maybe). If not, that's depressing, too. Anyway, next semester is thesis, which they don't use volunteers for, so I probably won't see any of them (unless by complete chance, in passing) until this summer or even next fall.

I think my heart is broken.
