So, many of you know about the difficulties I've encountered with my duplex since my move-in last February. A quick refresher....the place was a complete and utter pigstye. The Landlord's Son, daughter-in-law, and their 2 year old lived in it for 3 years. I'm quite certain that she hadn't cleaned.....EVER!!!! The home itself is beautiful, but had been left with grease, dirt, blood, roaches and fleas. After weeks of cleaning and debugging....it was finally comfortable to live in. The landlord, by the way, lives next door in the other half of the duplex. He promised to finish a shed (built off my bedroom wall), remove the previous tennents crap out of my garage, put in a garbage disposal, and also a fence in the back yard. None of which has been done after three months. We've spoken every time I pay him his $700 a month for rent and he always has some excuse about the family being sick, his customers hounding him, or something equally as lame....and he's assured me that these things will be done. Well, after my return from Iowa, I confronted him especially about the fence. They take up nearly the whole patio out back with their tables and chairs and toys, and wadiing pool for the youngster.....not to mention that the screened in patio is still full of tables, a saw, tons of sawdust, and more toys for the youngster....oh, and the indoor/outdoor carpet is iinfested with fleas. I mentioned the fence again, especially because his dogs come up to my window and bark at all hours of the day...and night. He basically said that I was odd for wanting my privacy and said that he never had a fence in any of his rentals in Germany. He laughed at me. I tried to express that this was his promise to me, and due to the stressful nature of my work, I need my privacy from the noise(an quite honestly, looking at their clutter outside my patio). He said he had no initention of puttiing up a fence because then they wouldln't have enough room for their things. I told him that I loved the house, but my privacy was really important to me and that I would have to move then. I told him it would take me several months to collect enough funds for deposits and such. He looked at me like I was nuts. That was 4 days ago. So get this....today, he comes over and tells me he needs me to be out by June 6th because his daughter-in-law has a friend in North Carolina who is moving down and needs a home! This time I looked at him like he was nuts! I reminded him that I would not be able to come up with the funds to move for at least 2 months and he was going to have to just deal with it. I have put so much work into this place to make it the beautiful home that it once was and I am sorely disappointed to have to leave it. I understand that things will work out the way that they need to....they always do....no matter how much fussing we do. But damn this sucks!
