So. Yeah. Last night I got to reading those reviews from people on my fics on FF.net again, and the fics themselves. Because I'd been looking at reviews on a fic that was posted on pottersues, and started thinking about how I'd never recieved a single flame on any of my stories. I don't know if most of my real fic writing took place in a time before troll ( Read more... )

The thing a lot of GW fans seem to forget (or never understand at all) is that GW is very loose with canon information to begin with. The creators specifically say there are things they didn't want to explain, or wanted to leave to the audience's imaginations. Thus, discussing the possible variations of what may or may not be true can be a fun fandom activity for all, but arguing that one thing is or isn't true is pointless. There will be no Word of God about it, there is no way to say one way or another because any "proof" from the source material you have can just as easily be "disproven" by someone else with some other random factoid from the source material.

I'm less restrictive now about writing non-canon pairings and things than I used to be. :) At the time I wrote Broken Wing and started Mended Wing, I really was very restrictive about what pairings I would and would not write, especially when it came to crossovers, because I didn't write crossovers for the same reason other people did (to pair up two characters from different fandoms). I wrote them because I really was interested in the possible interactions between many characters from two shows, and mostly because I could see how they might be connected, and wanted to see if it would work. I posit that the GW AC timeline is 4,000 years in the future of the present day Sailormoon time, and 3,000 years in the future of Crystal Tokyo, and that Crystal Tokyo, and the rule of NeoQueen Serenity and King Endymion, have a profound impact on the future, and the lives of the people in the GW AC timeline. I also posit that the character of Mizuno Ami, Sailormercury, from Sailormoon, who is a brilliant person, is the original creator of the Gundam concept.

Also, I wanted to see Usagi pilot a Gundam. ^______^

Much to many readers' sorrow, I did not pair Usagi with Duo, or with any of the pilots (though, uh, this sort of might change possibly in MW). I did my utmost to assure that whatever I did stayed as close as I could manage to the canon GW timeline (which might not have been so much, because I hadn't seen GW in a while at that point). How much it affected the Sailormoon timeline is iffy, because I believe I did have it occur during a time when Usagi refused to fight as Sailormoon, and at this point I can no longer remember if there's a time like that in canon or not. :/ I want to say not, though, and that I justified it to myself by saying I wouldn't be writing much in that timeline anyway, so it didn't matter as much.

I babble. I sorry. But I also responded to your scene reply! :D I'm on a roll!

It's how it is with a lot of anime, and the Gundam franchise in particular. The writers deliberately declined commenting on a lot of things in interviews, because they thought it'd be better to leave it up to the fans to speculate. They were probably right about that, GW was a popular fandom for many years. However, there will always be people who feel that their speculation is flawless and therefore, any ideas going against it are obviously wrong. There are many people who are convinced that they know the ultimate truth in matters of religion and politics, though I will claim there too that it's a matter of opinion, where few objective truth exists, so why not when it comes to what this or that character is like?

One thing that the majority of the GW fandom felt, was the Trowa was definitely not capable of rape. I caught a lot of crap for that one. But NCS is always a sensitive subject within fandom, and even well written fics will probably be scorned.

I can see why you'd be careful with crossover pairings - same as with OCs, that is very shaky ground, as the Mary Sue radar will be on high alert. Even if it's well carried out, the readers may still feel that way. I've never watched SM, so I don't really understand the specific implications of this crossover - but I do see that it might be an obvious temptation to fans of both series to pair up one strong female lead character with a strong lead male character, as most of the female characters in GW are outstaged by the men, and are often found mooning over a man who does not pine for them in return, at least not in any overt manner. fans of het pairings may find themselves disappointed with the options offered within GW, for that reason.
