Character Information
Name: Amaterasu
Fandom: Ōkami
Age: unknown
Gender: Female
OU, AU, or RU: RU
Assignment: IACC-Uesugi
Appearance: Amaterasu is easily mistaken for another white dog to anyone who's never seen a wolf, or perhaps a strangely pale young woman with dark eyes and long white hair. That's only to people who either do not believe in the gods or do not have faith in them. She is little more than a strangely intelligent wolf, or perhaps an oddly mute woman who is only a few inches over five feet tall.
To anyone else, she looks
much different.
History: Pre-Crucible:
data 1,
data 2 The first time Amaterasu found herself aboard the wayward ship Crucible, she thought she was getting aboard the Ark of Yamato. Sealed in a human body she was unfamiliar with, she was forced to adapt to a new environment, new people, and an entirely new way of life than she was used to, and had arrived just in time for things to go very, very wrong. With little over a month to adjust to her new surroundings, Amaterasu only had enough time to make a few new acquaintances and become familiar with the ship's layout before it began to shut down and everyone was forced into the Envirodome. It was there that Amaterasu 'died' from the black hole, and awoke back in Wep'keer. Thinking it had all been a very odd dream that she experienced while zoning out, she continued on to fight Yami and save Nippon from the Day of Darkness.
When she had settled down at Waka's side to enjoy a well-deserved nap after the longest series of battles she had faced in some time, she once again found herself on the Crucible. While others insisted she had only been gone for a few hours, the ship felt like a dream. Yet it was not, no matter how much she wished it some times. Enduring the oddities of spaceship life, Amaterasu gave up trying to make sense of her situation and lived in the moment; making friends, growing accustomed to her human form, ensuring her companion's safety and happiness. Including during a brief stint in zero-gravity, where she actually enjoyed it. Until the artificial gravity was restored and dropped her like a sack of bricks, of course. It wasn't bad.
Only every time she began to think that, something always had to prove her wrong. The subsequent crash on the planet Eos left her with injured friends and a whole new set of worries. The original relief was replaced with strange, confusing feelings from her time as a male, doubled by the effects of the native pollen from her adventures deep into the forests with their poisonous fogs. On top of that, due to her inability to be turned by a vampire's bite, she had become a main source of sustenance when no one else could donate for the vampire Asher. The strain quickly began to take its toll on her body, and she grew sick and weak from the bloodloss and the stress on her body. It was when she had recovered from this that the rescue ship with Captain Orion on board appeared. Amaterasu was the one selected for testing, and it was a confusing time for her, but she did what she could to help the researchers.
But it wasn't enough, and with the approach of the black hole and a desperate search for Orion and Ganymede among the wreckage, no one was able to make it out in time. Yet once again it seemed as if fate interceded, as just when she thought it was the end, Amaterasu awoke on the ship to find all of her new companions alive and well. Even her own injuries had been healed, which was quite a relief. With a renewed determination, they tried their best to solve the curious mystery of the ship through obstacles created by the malfunctioning holodeck. Confused by the illusions of vampires and a false Egypt, to the horrifying mixup of sentai and the labyrinthine corridors that made everyone strangely happy, it was easy for Ammy to become distracted, which seemed to be the plan. However when the path to finding Ganymede, Amaterasu charged in full-throttle, plunging herself into 1920s Chicago and a strange fantasy forest.
Unfortunately she found that her skills were of little use here. What awaited them were more riddles, something Amaterasu had never been good at. Knowing this, she did not join in the attempts to answer it--a choice that spared her from having her own barcode seared off like the others who answered incorrectly. When the nightmares began, Amaterasu did what she could to help her friends, giving them encouragement and trying to point them towards the path to overcoming their greatest fears, after all, they had done the same for her. It was due to their help that she could sleep easily at night, and it made the good dreams that followed that much better.
It also made it easier for the next 'reset' to catch her completely off-guard. This reset had been different, with no memory loss or sudden awaking, and Amaterasu knew that things were different. This was the beginning of the end, and they would have to do whatever they could to help. She rested when she could, keeping one ear cocked toward her sphere at all times to catch one of Orion's messages and helping the Doctor plan to overthrow Ganymede even as her own mind and body was meddled with. It was when Orion boarded the Crucible that Ammy leapt into action, helping draw away the security robots with her Brush Techniques as decoys, protecting the medics as they watched over him and healed him, and warning Orion that killing his father would only lead to utter destruction.
All of it paid off in the end. The ship was brought out of its temporal rift, everyone was restored to normal, and after ten months aboard the Crucible, Ammy could finally go home. She said her goodbyes, waiting until the last to watch her new friends return to their own worlds, cherishing them all in her heart before stepping through the gate to her Nippon. Her memories on board the ship again felt like a vivid dream, and as she worked with Waka to cleanse the Celestial Plains and restore Tamagahara to its original glory, she held on to those memories in her heart. They felt too real to be a simple dream.
The months passed, and the memories dimmed a little beneath all her duties, but kept coming back at the oddest moments. Like when her son Oshihomimi and his siblings were born, and when Sakuya called to her again. Yet just when she was about to answer Sakuya's summons, something went a little wrong...
Personality:As the goddess of the sun and origin of all that is good in Nippon, Amaterasu is chipper and sometimes maternal, but not afraid to dish out tough love if it will knock some sense into people, and has a love for combat that would make some grown men wince. It isn't uncommon for Ammy to rise to a challenge, charging in headfirst to settle a score without stopping to think first. One of her companion's catchphrases was "leap before you think," and Ammy took that to heart much to his occasional dismay. As a goddess she likes being the best at what she does, and takes pride in being the strongest and the fastest and the most skilled in the arts of combat. Those are the traits that help her best protect Nippon.
Unfortunately Ammy is quite often referred to by others as being stupid or lazy, and while she would admit to the latter were she able to talk without short-circuiting the spheres, she gets easily offended if someone implies she lacks intelligence. While she does come across as disinterested and rude, the truth is she gets bored easily when not reviving nature or defeating demons, and has a bad habit of nodding off if someone gets a little too long-winded. She can be supportive and empathic, and unlike her noisier companion Issun, often has a far better grasp on what's going on around her despite appearances. Which helps when she finds herself compelled to help others out and solve their problems. Whether it's by instinct or quick-thinking that helps her work out the daily puzzles of life, she can't say. Ask any poncle other than her envoys and they would tell you she had nothing going on in her head at all! To which she would heartily disagree.
Being a goddess of nature whose main tool is a Celestial Brush, Ammy has a fondness for art and entertainment and food. Quite often mostly food, with a nice nap thrown in for good measure. Overall she's entirely too fond of having a good time, which can range from napping under a cherry tree to fishing or one competition or another. Festivals are by far one of her more favorite things, from the good food to the fireworks, just thinking about them is enough to make her happy. Still she will always take art seriously, but in her opinion being a complete stick in the mud never got anyone anywhere.
Strengths:As the singular most powerful goddess in Nippon, Amaterasu has control over the elements as well as time itself. She can turn day into night, or night into day, while her Veil of Mist slows time around her. She can summon lightning, fire, water and ice with the flick of her Celestial Brush and her Power Slash technique is strong enough to cleave diamond ore. Her rejuvenation technique can fix anything that is broken or missing, unless it's a living creature. Ammy is a master of unarmed combat, as well as the use of her three divine instruments; the glaive, her rosaries, and her emblem the Divine Reflector Solar Flare. She also has such a strong heatbutt that she can smash rocks to dust, although when she uses this technique on people to get their attention, she always holds herself back.
While Amaterasu might not come across as very intelligent, that's usually not the case. She's smart enough to work out puzzles on her own, but her laziness can sometimes make her seem stupid. If challenged, she will do everything in her power to complete a job. So once she's set her mind to getting something done, there's no stopping her.
Weaknesses: She is a goddess of passion, which sometimes lets her emotions get the best of her. If she takes offense to something she will become irritable and snappish, or go so far as to resort to such childish methods as sulking or grumbling. After all, this is the goddess who is said in legend to have sealed herself in a cave after someone killed her maidservants, and is prone to throwing, biting or headbutting people that really anger her. Normally she can keep a fairly tight leash on this desire, but sometimes even the smallest snowflake can create a landslide. Amaterasu can't back down from a challenge, as her dominant streak demands that she win any fight that someone else instigates to prove that she's the best at anything ever. Needless to say, it gets her in a lot of trouble, but she usually wins.
Also she has a problem with water. Amaterasu is a horrible swimmer by nature, and after having too many close calls with drowning, she's not too keen on having anything to do with willingly getting in it. After all, when one can summon lily pads or run across the surface of water with aid of a Moon Tribe water tablet, it shouldn't be a problem!
Which also makes her insist she doesn't need a bath. Ever. Thankfully her natural powers keep her cleaner than the average wolf, but she'll still fight tooth and claw (as gently as possible) if threatened with the actual deed.
