A joke that is a truth

I just posted a joke on a friends page. I started to write why this is such a hot topic for me but I decided to refrain, I had meant it as a real joke for her. She didn't need to hear my rant.

So here is the rant: Congressmen and Senators get free health care for life while the rest of us have to rely on insurance through our work or become self insured. I cannot believe that so many people just take all of this for granted. My husband and I are self employed. Because of this we are self insured. We pay nearly $800 per month for a $6600 deductible policy.

Seriously, as a country, we can't do better than this? And don't get me started on the income of doctors. I know they go to school for years. I know we want them to be the best and they should be paid for that, blah, blah, blah. But, because we limit the number of people who enter the profession, and medical schools are supported by tax dollars, as a country we should be able limit the income of the people who are in the profession.

I am self employed and yet, on this topic at least, I am becoming a Socialist.

So here is the joke:

Two patients limp into different medical clinics with the same complaint. Both have trouble walking and appear to require a hip replacement.

The first patient is examined within the hour, is x-rayed the same day and has a time booked for surgery the following week.

The second sees his family doctor after waiting 3 weeks for an appointment, then waits 8 weeks to see a specialist, then gets an x-ray, which isn't reviewed for another week and finally has his surgery scheduled for 6 months from then.

Why the different treatment for the two patients?

The first is a golden retriever.
The second is a senior citizen.

"Next time take me to a vet!"
