So. I've been without my computer for a day and a half because Best Buy has been trying to figure out my mp3 player issues. Turns out that there was something really wrong, and really long story short I broke down and have an iPod. Sigh. Now I have to install iTunes and try to get this all set up tonight so I can have my music with me for the road ( Read more... )

I preface this by saying I am a horrible friend.

...HAH! One of us, one of us! I did kind of chortle when I read this. Truly, I am sorry for the hassle you've had to go through, but...teehee.

No, I was totally expecting this. In reality, I always knew that it was kind of inevitable, especially as the number of non-Apple products stocked in Best Buy has drastically dropped. (Seriously though, other than Apple there was only one other brand that has a player larger than 8 gb. And if that brand (the Zune) is incompatible with my apparently f-ed up computer I really had no choice.)

I'm just glad that there's someone who knows exactly what this means to me. Even though I also knew you'd be entertained.

(P.S. - Is my default icon showing up for you?)

Well, the Zune is made by Microsoft, who also makes Windows, so I'd think the Zune would work okay if it weren't such a turd (just my opinion FWIW, whch I know isn't much since I'm all-Apple-all-the-way).

(The many pointy signs one? Yes, it is.)

Actually they were leaning towards my laptop being the culprit. The other option was to set the computer back to the manufacturer's settings, effectively erasing EVERYTHING that I've put in here (unless I want to pay and waste time having it all backed up), and starting from scratch. Then it might work. That's what all my sighing has been about, because even though I'm generally anti-Mac I would rather just give in than go through all the hassle.

(Oh good. It isn't showing up for me, so I was just curious.)

I can't believe you held out this long - 95% of people I know with an mp3 player have an iPod. I couldn't survive without iTunes, it makes things so much easier!

I have this really big thing about Macs, for a variety of reasons - it's really been a big thing of mine to avoid it. And even though I have iTunes I'll probably still use WMP as my primary player. I don't know. Assuming this even works (which remains to be seen), it's still a case of resigning myself to not having other options. Maybe in time I'll come to accept it. :/ (This probably sounds like I'm making a huge deal out of nothing, but it's been an issue ever since I used my first Mac in like... Junior High. Or whenever they were installed into my school system's labs.)

I am fighting the good fight, still - I got a new mp3 player at the start of this month, and it's a Creative. I am a whore for Creative, what can I say? It's nice, though. So far it's been pretty easy and compatible - it basically plays any file format that I put on it. But I'm sure you'll grow to like your iPod! I hear they're nice and easy.

I loved Creative as well - I had three Zen Visions, but they discontinued the line at Best Buy because of issues (the same issues that I had to keep replacing mine for, freezing). It really came down to the fact that there are only two brands of mp3 players that Best Buy now carries that hold more than 8 gigs, and the other brand (Zune) was not compatible with my computer (most likely my fault?).

I really wish I could be fighting the fight, and I am in my heart, but after going nearly a year without a player I just want portable music again. :/
