Wow. So summer applications are up already. Though I guess it is December already, so it's about time.
So on Thursday I went out to meet
tuquerida and see a used English bookstore. We had a nice time (and I even got real milk at the Corte Ingles!). Then, seeing I had a bit of time to spare, I decided to see a little bit of the main street.
I walked along Calles Gran Via and Princesa, stopping to see Plaza de Espana. But when Princesa abruptly ended I was faced with having to make a bunch of metro transfers (which is hard for someone like me). So I took a large pedestrian street, and followed all of the strange shouting I heard (though I was a bit unsure whether it was happy shouting or scary shouting, so maybe that wasn't my wisest choice of the day).
However, I found myself at Puerta del Sol, surrounded by a huge crowd of crazy Scottish soccer fans who are apparently here to see a big game (it was, I later found out Aberdeen vs. Atletico Madrid or Getafe or who knows). That was also quite the culture shock, with some of the songs they were singing (try "sheep-shagging bastards" to the tune of "Guantanamera" for an idea). Here also I found another metro station, but again, more than one metro line to get me to my train/metro station. I was aiming for a specific station (Opera) since it has a direct link to PP.
Figuring that since I knew which station I came from and where I was now, if I went in a certain direction I would have to find Opera, I wandered until I found the Plaza Mayor (surprise), then chose an exit at random and walked past a neat and very old looking Plaza de Villa (?) until I reached the Royal Palace and surrounding park.
Now, I suppose this isn't that long of a journey, but by this time it was getting late (I was without a clock, so I couldn't even be sure of that), I was tired, and I was starting to despair of even finding any metro, let alone the one I was looking for.
But finally, by total chance, I happened upon the original metro stop I had been looking for the entire time, and made my way back home (with a little stop at the mall to pick up some marshmallow candy).
And that's what happens when I get lost. I see pretty much every major tourist attraction in that part of the city and make it home only slightly later than I should have.
I don't know. I thought it was interesting. :/ Maybe I need to get a map and use Paint to show the whole thing.
Anyone else watching NMTB? I'm sad that Noel isn't as funny as a team captain. He just... doesn't really care at all and loses track all the time. Which is great as a guest, but not so much as captain. I miss Bill Bailey. Oh well, he's back soon anyway.
