So I just finally watched this, as was recommended to me, and:
1. Tucker Carlson is an ass.
2. Tucker Carlson is an ASS!
3. John Stewart is dead on right.
4. Why are the people in the audience such idiots? Oh wait, it's crossfire.
5. That bow tie comment was classic.

You know, I was thinking about this later and thought I might add that this problem John is describing is not just applicable to Crossfire, or politics. Within the art community a similar situation exists which has always made me feel a little pained and sick at heart. There is the need for artists to hate critics and for critics to hate art historians and, well you can mix that cycle up any way you'd like. Every form of criticism I've heard about the one group or another sums that group up in a very specific way. I've always felt conflicted because I'm all three of those things now and I've never worn any of those titles easily. I take the time to painstakingly construct my ideas into a physical, visual object, but I don't want to be the artist that the art historians hate, I have a deep and unending love of the the act of preserving and interpreting the history of art, but I don't want to be the historian that the critics hate, I have a need to see how my philosophies and ideas apply to contemporary art, but I don't want to be the critic that the artists hate......and there is so much hate to go around!

Every group always seems to be differentiating themselves from all of the others, and doing that seems so harmful to me. If nothing else, where does it leave me? I do all of these things, am I supposed to hate myself?

Joking aside, I've always, always, seen these areas as having much more in common than they have in opposition from each other. They are totally interwoven and all work so much better when they have an appreciation and a harmony for each other. I understand that we all have a need to define ourselves and all definitions require an explanation of what isn't. But to mistake individual differences for the ideology of an entire group? Come on guys, can't we all just get along?
