Hm, this icons look really great but mine didn't came out that way ... I tried multiple crops in both ps and psp. So, probably, I'm doing something wrong. :)
... at color balance layer, those are the settings for shadows, midtones or highlights?
The settings for the Color Balance layer are just in midtones, I didn't touch the shadows or highlights.
I had someone else ask me about an icon they did, it came out too bright for them. Sometimes when you use brighter pictures it happens. If it does set the Brightness/Contrast Layer to normal instead of screen. If it's still too bright move the levels down to 15,0 instead of the 30,15 I stated in the tut.
Hope that helps and solves your problems, but if it doesn't tell me and I'll figure out what else is could be the problem.
Hm, so, I tried what you suggested but I still didn't get the result I wanted so I just follow the tutorial using your picture (http://img393.imageshack.us/img393/8977/spn2ss9.png) and the result was different (http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/7862/spnvg61rw8.png). So, I'm obviously doing something wrong. Have any idea what? I'm sorry for posting another question, but I just really like your results and I'm obviously stupid. :(
Ok, let me think. What program are you using b/c I don't use PS so it might not be translatable or at least might not have the same results? Did you set the Curves layer to Soft light? Also when you merge, trying using Merge Visable instead of Merge All sometimes it can make a difference.
And don't worry about asking another question. I wouldn't have posted the tut if I didn't want others to know how to do it, so I don't have any problem with it.
I'm using ps, but I tried it in psp too. I got the same result. OK, so, obviously it's translatable. :D
I set the layer to soft light. But all my icons, as sn_ds35111 said, came out a little reddish. :( I will try and use merge visible (I don't know what I used, merge visible or merge all ...). Thanks, btw. :)
No problem, if your getting the same problems as sn_ds35111 I posted hopefully a solution to it. The only problem is most when you use color balance layer the icons are gonna come out a little tinted. But if you don't use it comes out with a very gray drained look. Sorry.

But never mind. Just my stupidity, probably.
