Oh, "Seattle" and your "Espresso"

Know what I miss?

FLAVORED COFFEE.

here's a foto of the exterior to a coffee shop from my home state. They have the best pumpkin spice coffee in the world.

No - not espresso with flavored syrup in it ---

Coffee. That's Flavored.

I'm not sure if it was ever like this out here, but in NH, in the 90s, you'd walk into a coffee shop and just find a row of airpots, all with different flavored coffees in them: chocolate raspberry, coconut, cinnamon-hazelnut, pumpkin spice...

And the measure of a good coffee shop was not only how many flavors they had in the airpots, but how many did they have ICED, too.

It's funny to me that you go into any coffee shop here and everything is espresso, and if it's not...it's coffee that *tastes* like espresso. The only varities of coffee you get are different blends ala Starbucks: Sumatran, Breakfast Blend, Tastes-like-dirt, etc.

So, today, I decided to get a small french press and some flavored coffee from the grocery store.

THe first grocery store I went to HAD NO FLAVORED COFFEE!! Just the variety of "blends".

I shook my head and walked to Safeway, where they had flavored coffee, but it was all the low-quality shit. Like the Safeway SelectTM stuff.

I bought it anyway, cause I wasn't convinced I'd find anything better.

I got "Chocolate Velvet" coffee.

It tastes daaaaaaammmmmnnnnnn gooodddd. Even for cheap-o stuff.

I really don't like Starbucks. And there are only so many americanos I can drink before I get bored, Seattle. And no, frappuccinos and caramel sugar-bombs are out of the question. I want my coffee to *taste* like decadence without allotting 50% of my daily recommended calories on it.

Calories aside, when you brew coffee WITH flavor it's more aromatic, subtle and satisfying --- not sugary, syrupy and weird. This was the debate I had with Dunkin' Donuts when they switched their flavored iced coffee to iced coffee with flavor syrup. They said "they're the same great flavors in which we use to brew our coffee!" I say "duzzent matta!! Don't taste the same. Give me a free lb. of coffee for my pain, please!"

Seattle, have you always been deprived of the goodness of flavored coffee?

Do tell.
