?_? I don't get it, what's wrong with that design for the LiveJournal layout? It looks great to me. I've been using LiveJournal for over ten years and it's always looked about the same... boring.
They really changed up the comment system. Are you maybe seeing them all in your style? Try this link? http://livejournal.design.ru/posts/comment/ It's all in Russian, but they look the same as the English version. >.> It also means that they may be changing up all the other pages to look like they do on that post.
No I'm seeing the new comment system. There's nothing wrong with it. Is this really so upsetting to some people that they feel the need to storm off to other websites? I've seen some nasty things written, I thought something really serious had happened.
For me it's not the comment system itself (though I don't care for it - particular without preview and spellcheck D: That is a major problem). I know other people really need the subject lines of comments for things like trigger warnings, but that doesn't effect me personally. For me it's the way it was handled, and the threat of things to come.
It seems like the design decisions were made on one guy's experience, were made against the feedback they received, were kept a secret from the English userbase, and then got snarky. Basically, they handled every single aspect of this change in the worst possible way, and there may be more dramatic layout changes coming. All that is enough for me to at least want to have a backup. From just the day or so I've been active on dreamwidth... wow! I had forgotten what it was like to have a staff that really cares about the users so much.
If it doesn't bother you, it doesn't bother you and more power to you for that. :) It's not like I'm vanishing from lj, but I think I'll have my dreamwidth too.
I don't think I've ever used the subject line and don't read them so it's not something that affects me. I don't even see how it's effective as a trigger warning, since the subject lines were never that prominent/visible anyway. I never use preview or spellcheck either so again, personally it doesn't affect me at all

I can see what you mean by it being melodramatic, but they published a release saying "Comment pages have been redesigned! More information about specific changes will be announced in the next few days." This was after the Russian users had seen it and had a beta. That seems deliberately coy to me, but I may be reading too much into it

Honestly that seems like a smart move to me on LiveJournal's part. Whether we like it or not, the Russian community has a lot more weight and influence on LiveJournal. They probably use it the most. It makes sense to me to test out features with them first before releasing it more widely across the site. I highly doubt it was meant to be "coy" or deliberately deceitful.
You're not the first person I've known to cross-post between LiveJournal and another site, and it's a nice idea. But I'm a stubborn old fart and probably won't be making another switch in my lifetime, unless that switch is back to paper.
From what I understand they make up less of the userbase than the US, but even the Russian community seemed to be against it. They may have more non-registered users, but I don't know. I do understand testing it out with them first, but they're not the only userbase lj has to appease. ;)
I understand that not everyone wants to change, but I'm really enjoying playing around with the new site. Will I stay there or just on lj? Eh, I'll see what happens!
