12 OF 12 - JANUARY, 2008

Jan 15, 2008 15:28

So, I kinda cheated.  I couldn't, for the life of me, edit down the number of photos to 12.  So...you're getting 13.

11:23am - I spent the first half of the day with an old friend and his daughter.  We decided to go for breakfast and then for a hike.  We went to Bobby's in Woodland Hills - an awesome coffee shop with delicious breakfast.  This was taken after breakfast.

12:48pm - We took a hike in Malibu Creek State Park to the M*A*S*H site.  It's an easy 2.5 mile hike with beautiful views all around.  This was an awesome tree beautifully adorned in red at the base.  It just caught my eye.

12:51 - This hike took me back to my childhood.  My dad used to take me on hikes all the time.  And I, like every other kid my age, collected rocks from every hike we went on.  This habit still lingers in my adulthood, but as a child my mom went crazy over the boxes and boxes of rocks that I had accumulated.  These are the rocks that I chose to take with me from this hike...with my camera.

1:08pm - We arrive!!  So...I'm like a GINORMOUS M*A*S*H fan.  From what I know, this is the site used to film the opening montage, as well as the pilot and several other episodes throughout the series.  There were 2 abandoned and rusted cars.  There was also a small climb to a plateau which is where I think the helicopter landed and where Hawkeye and BJ would play golf. This was very very very cool.

1:12pm - Of course..we got inside.  From L to R: Chris, Me, and his daughter Lex.  Chris and I have been friends for a little over 7 years.  We met while I worked at Kaiser.  I quit around a few months his little girl was born.  It's funny when I hang out with him...seeing his daughter always reminds just how long our friendship has lasted.

1:16pm - As I stood there taking it all in...I could almost feel my inner "Radar" jump at the anticipation of the incoming choppers.  Oh, suicide is painless...

1:58pm - My mom always gets on my case when I take photos of places that I see or go...she says I never take photos of myself so that there isn't any actual proof that I was there.  Which, is preposterous since I had to be there to take the actual photo.  But, there's no arguing with mom.  So..here I am on a hike to the M*A*S*H site in Malibu Creek State Park.

2:10pm - This is my favorite photo of the day.  It's the shadow created by Chris and I looking out at the creek that runs through this gorgeous piece of land that used to belong to Bob Hope.  We're looking out at the ducks and wondering where all the fish are?  Ou est les poissons?!?!  We didn't see a single one.

4:09pm - We didn't get back till 3:45pm and I needed to be at my job y 4pm.  I sing at a Catholic Church as a second job.  This is me making sure that in the rush of getting ready I didn't accidentally tuck my dress into my undies or something equally embarrassing and totally possible.  I also wanted to show off my new boots.  :)

4:39pm - This is the church I sing at.  I love when the afternoon sun illuminates the stained glass.  We're looking from the sanctuary to the choir loft.  If you've seen Boogie Nights, you'll recognize my church as being the one where Mark Wahlberg beats off nearby.

9:42pm - I took my friend Denise to Tangier's in Los Feliz to see a very dear and old friend of mine, Sacha Sacket, play a set.  I met Sacha 11 years ago while doing Open Mic's at a coffee house in Tarzana called Coffee Junction.  The place was packed which made me happy.  I love to see people who are close to me succeed in any way they can.  I was very proud.

10:16pm - Me and Denise - 2 foxy brownies out for a night on the town.  We're standing outside of Tangier's waiting for the valet to retrieve my car.

10:43pm - After dropping Denise off, I drove back up to the 101.  As I did this, I noticed that the flag in front of the Carl's, Jr. was raised at half mast.  After trying to figure if some kind of national disaster had occurred or which head of state happened to die, it took me a second to remember that the founder of Carl's, Jr. - Carl Karcher - had passed away the night before.  What a poignant show of respect and grief.  As I continued on to the onramp, I pictured several of his restaurants laced  across the country...all with their flags flying at half mast.

11:55am - My bonus word was "HIGHWAY".  This pic cracked me up.  It was taken at the very beginning of the hike and at first glance, you think the trail marked by the sign is the one winding up the hill, which was actually pretty steep despite how shallow the photo depicts it.  But, in actuality the trail starts to the right of the sign.  Still...I remember looking at the ascending winding trail through the dead grass leading up to blue skies and thinking about the Michael Landon TV series - Highway to Heaven.

It was a great day.  Old friends...good friends...earth, history, and music.
