Work and stuff

The Horseshoe casino where I work experienced a bit of a setback as they moved out the old boat and attempted to move the new one into it's place yesterday.
As I was getting ready to go in for *more* training, it seemed to be plastered over the 12 o'clock news. There's a new boarding ramp that they were trying to connect from the boat to the ( Read more... )

At least no one was hurt but whoa! scary wind.

Traffic police are *extrememly* sneaky. In South Africa they would actually hide in bushes so that people couldn't see them and you'd only realise if or when you spotted the cable across the road ready to trap you. I think the law changed a few year ago that states the police vehicles now have to be visible and there has to be a sign that says that tells you speed trapping takes place on these roads or whatever.

I got out of a fine once. There's a bridge that connects my suburb with the city, it's a bit of a decline before you hit the bridge and I was doing 72 km on a 60km road (so they give you leeway for 10km over the limit) but I got a fine for the extra 2. I contested it saying that a) there are no notifications of traps in this area and b) the actual police vehicles were hidden and c) even though it's generally understood that in a suburb you drive 60km on a wider road, this was the bridge and there are no speed limit signs as you head for it.

Maybe the last one was pushing it, but hey I got off lol.

Least you have the signs which are legal now. We dont have any such thing around here and you never know when a cop is going to just show up. Sometimes they hide off the side of the road in the dark with their lights off (like what happened to me) or in the bushes, etc..like what you used to have before the laws changed over in S Africa.

Good for you on getting out of the fine! *applauds* I know for a fact that there's nothing I can do with mine though. I can contest it, but all that will happen is a court date being given to me which could mean lost days of work with the eventuality of losing anyways. Its hard to contest when the police around here have radar guns that give the exact amount you were driving at when you passed them. If I refuse to pay, it could mean jail time and a bigger fine an the likelihood that my dealer license being suspended which in a nut shell would put me up shit creek with my job. Ah well. *shrug*
