I'm not telling anyone what they can and can't like/read/write, first of all. Just to make that plain. Nor am I saying that if you like the following, I think less of you. It's not directed at anyone in particular nor inspired by any specific fics. This is just me being peevish, okay?

Querulous rambling behind the cut )
I guess since slash is (at least partly) about breaking the rules, and questioning assumptions, it bugs me sometimes that the "happily ever after" of fairy tales is the assumed desired outcome for the various pairings. If that makes sense? If as an author I'm stretching boundaries in putting these men together, I want to maybe question other aspects of relationship-building too. Which is not to say that I don't create long-term pairings -- the BTR-verse has Harry and Draco ultimately together for their entire lives, although there are some definitely non-traditional aspects as well (e.g. Draco marrying Daphne and having a child with her). But that's why I like the Draco/Harry/Snape fic that Cruise and I are writing, because again it's a relatively flexible, non-trad arrangement. I don't know that those three will stay together forever, but I don't think that if they don't it means the relationship NOW is a failure.
Don't get me started on mpreg. You know what I think, I think!
