Stuff of a stufflike stuffness

CSA from two weeks ago: loose leaves equivalent to 2 heads leaf lettuce; 2 young garlic; 2 young onions; bunch radishes; arugula; 1 head red leaf lettuce; spinach.

CSA from last week: bunch green onions; 4 smallish youngish onions; bunch radishes; 2 small butter lettuce; spring greens; mustard greens; kale.

I ended up tossing the arugula, because I didn't think of anything to do with it and it became slimy. The young garlic got sauteed with the fennel from the week before and some green beans from the supermarket. The spinach, mustard greens, and kale I have pre-cooked and will saute with some red onion for a veggie tomorrow. The older lettuce and the spring greens went into a salad I made for the community dinner, which also had chicken and grapefruit segments and a sherry vinaigrette, and was quite good although there were leftovers and they did NOT hold up well. If I make it again and intend it for more than one meal, I'll be sure to not dress the whole thing, just as needed on the plate.

The two small butter lettuces still remain - we may have a salad later this week - and I am WAY behind on using up radishes, I think I have the equivalent of at least 3 bunches lurking in the fridge. I did finally cook up the beets from earlier CSAs, so I believe all that now remains are all those radishes plus the two lettuces. Keeping it under control!

This week I made a "chicken paella" (pretty non-authentic, it is basically brown basmati rice, onion, chicken breast, and roasted red peppers, cooked with saffron - so no sausage, no seafood, no other veggies or olives or anything - but tasty nonetheless). Also a stir-fry using up various veggies (some napa cabbage, carrot, red bell pepper, snow peas, onions, mushrooms, water chestnuts, plus chicken), served with brown rice. Tonight I will make salmon burgers, serving them with some steamed broccoli and microwaved sweet potato.

Er, I don't know, it's life-like? We're probably going to spend some part of Memorial Day weekend at an art festival. Other than that, no particular holiday plans.

SO went off to New Mexico last weekend and ran a half-marathon at 8500+ feet, coming in second in his age group, which I thought was pretty impressive even if it wasn't a run with a huge number of participants.

No new sewing, no muse reappearance. Maybe I'll manage to sew some later this week/weekend. I did put in 5 hours of weeding last weekend, got a lot of the driveway and back patio area cleaned up, plus some in one flower bed where I also put in some replacement daylilies (lost several in the past couple of years to the heat; that bed has to be watered really regularly and we didn't always manage it).

New staff member at work seems to be doing all right so far. Progressing on the librarian hire, two candidates should be coming for campus interviews the second week of June. I have to call references for one of them tomorrow.

That's it for now.
