Dusted on Friday evening (one of my least favorite tasks). Saturday we had a meeting with our insurance agent, and I did all the usual shopping and errands, plus went to the post office to buy stamps. Also a couple of loads of laundry and some cooking. Today we figured out our guest list for our annual holiday open house (to be Dec. 15 this year), made up invitations, and SO hand-delivered the ones to the neighborhood folks. I addressed those to people at Previous University and they're in the mail to go out tomorrow; we will also each hand-deliver invites at work. Phew. More cooking, too, and this evening we went to see a concert - Bach and Handel, choral pieces. After getting home I did the matchups for
3fan_holidays and got the assignments for that sent out - double phew.
The big thing going on right now is that I have just embarked on the first diet of my life. We shall see how it goes. Perhaps the holiday season is not the ideal time, but WTH, I quit smoking when I was getting ready for my history MA exams, and that worked out. My doctor suggested I try the South Beach diet, and so I got the book on it (plus the ancillary cookbook) from the public library, read it over, and decided I could try it. Started with yesterday's dinner. Two weeks with no carbs and no fruit is going to be tough; I love my bread and potatoes and fruit. SO is totally behind the idea and is (mostly) going to participate, i.e. he will eat whatever I am having for dinner, although he will probably still take sandwiches for his lunch, he can have fruit and crackers for snacks, that kind of thing. What I like about this one was that it's fairly flexible and doesn't require lots of measuring and weighing, or eating particular combinations, or other difficult practices. As with most diets, I can have all the green salad I can stomach, ha ha ha. Pretty much all the veg I want, actually, although some veg are verboten to begin with, like carrots and potatoes, winter squash and beets. And lots of lean protein, and even eggs. I admit I am a little hungry right now, but so far it hasn't been too bad, and I've prepped a lot of things (breakfast, and some lunches) for the rest of the week already, which should help. Wish me luck. [I may indulge slightly at our holiday party, because, well, yeah, if I cook all that good food, I will want to at least try a bite of the various goodies. But I might then do the phase 1 part for 3 weeks total rather than 2, in compensation.]
Yikes, it's after 11. Got to go to bed! Long day tomorrow w/ yoga, and then Tuesday I have to see my dentist as I seem to have cracked a crown. Bleah.
