We did get our CSA on Friday (and it sounds like we are probably off hiatus): bag of basil, 8 small apples, ~9 oz. okra, 1 cantaloupe, 6 small bell peppers, ~7 oz misc. hot peppers, 3 small eggplant (~8 oz. each), bag arugula.
So I made the annual batch of
gumbo base to freeze, which used up the bell peppers, arugula, about half the hot peppers, and some basil (and took most of the day to make); sauteed and froze the okra; cooked
turkey meatballs and
(meatless spaghetti) sauce, which used some more basil, for last night, and we also had salad; made
garbanzos with spinach,
brown rice, and grilled eggplant with garlic, basil, and oregano. (In the gumbo and meatballs and spaghetti I also used fresh oregano from my garden.) We'll have cantaloupe with the garbanzos etc. too.
Remaining CSA veg: 1 small cabbage, 1 head garlic, about a dozen radishes, 8 or so hot peppers, and I think that is it! The apples will be eaten with lunches this week.
Saturday we went out to dinner for SO's birthday (2 days delayed); he wanted me to pick the restaurant as a surprise and blindfold him till we got there, so I did, but he has a good enough sense of direction that he guessed where we were going fairly quickly. *headdesk* We went to a Japanese restaurant that we've been to several times before, but not for a while. They are probably the best sushi place in town. In the event though SO wasn't in the mood for sushi (and it's not my favorite, although I will eat it), so he had salted mackerel and I had teriyaki salmon, both very good.
Other than that, pretty much the usual errands and chores - 5 loads laundry this week. It rained late Saturday night into early Sunday morning, with much thunder and lightning and thereby disturbing my sleep, but we got about 1.75 inches of rain, hurrah! SO will not have to water until at least next weekend. Also we met with a long term care insurance agent on Saturday, and are meeting with another late this afternoon. We're not sure if we're going to buy LTC insurance or not, but are considering the pros and cons and want to have accurate info to make the decision.
Game Night at the library last Friday seemed to go pretty well; there were a fair number of folks here, although a large percentage were in some way associated with the library (faculty/staff and student workers). Three separate video game stations, plus lots of board games available (and some board games were even played). Also many snacks, which doubtless helped lure some folks in.
My first two bibliographic instruction sessions went fine also. I have another scheduled for not this week, but next, for a different professor. Haven't heard from anyone else yet, but we'll see. I'm also possibly going to be put on a second university committee (at any rate I allowed my name to be considered). Tomorrow I have a "goals meeting" with our director in the afternoon. We have these every 2-3 months or so, basically what am I doing and planning to do in terms of the general job expectations. I think this time she will also talk about the first year review/annual evaluation process which IIRC happens in the late fall semester sometime. Given that it is the second week of fall term, we continue to have tons of printing and scanning questions, which get tedious but at least are mostly easy to resolve.
