Lazy weekend

Well, sort of. For me. That is to say, I only ran errands and did laundry on Saturday, and did quite a bit of novel-reading; also transcription. Really didn't feel like cooking so persuaded SO to go out for dinner last night. But I did cook today, as well as talking with both my mom and SO's.

CSA this week had: arugula, baby greens, basil, 2 summer squash, 1 small green bell pepper, 1 hot pepper, 6 small onions, 2 heads garlic, ~1.3 lb. okra, ~1 lb. carrots. I confess that I just tossed the arugula this time; it was actually baby arugula so wouldn't have been too bitter, but I was not up for trying to think of something to do with it. I suspect I will end up tossing most of the old hot peppers and the old leeks as I'm not having much inspiration for using those either.

I grilled the summer squash and red onions (plus a couple of store zucchini and Japanese eggplant) with basil, garlic, and olive oil, plus a squeeze of lemon juice after they came off the grill. Prepped the baby greens plus extra lettuce for salad. Made roasted carrots - my thyme plant didn't make it through the drought, so I used garlic chives, parsley, plus a couple pinches of dried thyme. Sauteed and froze the okra again this week (now have four batches in the freezer for gumbo use). Made turkey shepherd's pie, at SO's request. Also made kalua pig for tonight's community dinner (it's all ready and back in the slow cooker heating up; I did save a couple of lunch servings for me, in case it all gets eaten at the potluck). Will make Thai chicken soup tomorrow night for dinner - I decided that doesn't take too long to make, and it's best the first night really as the noodles get over-soft and the whole thing gets quite thick when it's left over.

After we get back from the dinner I will probably finish the book I'm reading and maybe watch a video; see if I can get SO to give me a footrub and try to go to bed on the early side.
