Weekend report

The CSA this week had: arugula, 3 Japanese eggplant, 1 large zucchini, 2 small summer squash, 6 small red and orange bell peppers, 2 kohlrabi, 2 cucumbers, a bunch of turnips, and a large bunch of tatsoi. I made ratatouille with the eggplant, zucchini, summer squash, and a couple of peppers (still had a green one from last week). Tried a salad of arugula, radishes, and oranges, which we decided was okay but not fabulous (it called for baby arugula, which would be a little less bitter than the more mature greens we get). The turnips I used up in a double batch of mulligatawny soup. We're having oat-crusted chicken with sage tonight, and I'm making salmon casserole for tomorrow. I'll also make this recipe using tatsoi in lieu of bok choy and with regular onion, since I don't have sweet onion on hand right now. The kohlrabi may have to wait till next week since they keep okay, but I'll try to serve the cucumbers just as a salad/side sometime this week. Oh, and I baked last week's sweet potatoes - they were odd, being pale-colored inside, and thus looking a lot like regular potatoes - and scooped the flesh out for eating later this week. That'll mean we'll only have garlic, some radishes, and the kohlrabi hanging around and should get everything else from the farm eaten up. *phew* That's always the challenge - how to eat up all the produce every week!

No yoga class yesterday - it was canceled because the instructor was participating in a fundraising walk for Alzheimers. So, usual shopping, laundry (only 2 loads though), and some cooking. Today we walked Juno (with the neighbors and their dog), and went to the art museum to see a new exhibit. I'll start cooking again shortly. This week's late night is Monday, so I'll make the salmon casserole tonight and take it leftover tomorrow, probably with sweet potato and perhaps the tatsoi mixture.

Monday and Tuesday will be non-carpool days. I would like to finish drafting the KK fic in those two days, if I can manage it. Am presently setting up the auto-transcription for the dictation I did Friday (HotM). Also am about to try calling my sister, with whom I haven't talked in a long time; my mom I expect will call me in about an hour, which is her usual time. We missed talking last week since she had visitors, but mostly she and I talk every Sunday at about 5 my time (which means I'm usually cooking while we talk).

Other than that... life just kind of jogs along, you know? I suppose that's a good thing on the whole.
