October

Good things about October:

* the academic semester reaches its halfway point
* the leaves start to turn colors
* Diana's Grove does its Rites weekend, which is invariably awesome
* hot food and hot showers become deeply appealing again
* the Tomato Nation jumps on the yearly Donors Choose challenge and makes amazing things happen.

It's the first day of the challenge and the Tomato Nation has raised nearly $1100 in the first 16 hours. Nearly $3000 of that was raised between midnight and 8 AM. Every year, I am proud to be a part of this glorious endeavor. Even if you don't donate through the Tomato Nation project list, I encourage you to donate anyway. A lot of projects have been chosen by large foundations to receive matching funds, so your money will go twice as far there. And every dollar helps, even if you can only afford to donate 1 dollar. There may be some project that only needs that 1 dollar in order to be fully funded.

I look forward to this every year; it's one of my favorite things about autumn. And I can't wait to see what we can do together this year.
