I agree that it's tragic, but I think you'll agree that it's 10+ years in prison for not one stupid decision, but eight stupid decisions, compounding on one another, and all in a short period of time

Thanks for the update. And really, with all those new details, I'm so glad he was convicted. If that makes sense. Not that I hoped he would be found innocent before....C'mon brain, we've been up for almost three hours now!!!!
Yeah, but I was worried after I got booted for saying I'd go harder on him for being an underaged drunk driver, and a lot of the people who said they felt bad for him were still sitting on the jury when I left, so I didn't know for sure how it'd turn out. My heart breaks for the family of the woman who died.. I hope they can find peace.
I agree. I wonder how something like this might affect penalties for underaged DUIs, since clearly having a suspended license and taking the diversion classes had absolutely no effect on his behavior. Perhaps a stiffer penalty is in order for a first offense?
I tend to jokingly say I support the death penalty when it comes to littering and drunk driving but anybody who knows me well knows it's not really a joke. I've never lost someone to it but if I did, I'd be starving for revenge. I'm not sure I could handle it if that were my Mother. I really despise the mentality that leads to impaired driving.

That's how I feel. And I think this one got to me particularly hard because I live near where the crash happened. I've been in that area at all hours of the night (there's a 24 hour diner about half a mile from there) - that could've easily been me or someone I care about that got hit. I have no sympathy for him.
Me neither. There is something in the character of that type of person (and a litterbug) that is completely unforgivable and that's why I take such a strong, swinging to the right stance on the subject. I can't waver from my position of complete abhorrence.
