I've been at the museum doing work everyday, minus yesterday, and im going to go in again tomorrow. it's so fun, even if im not paid for this work, im really enjoying everything they have me doing. i spoke with the woman who does educational events and she already has me signed up to help them on jan 21st. they are doing an event similar to antiques roadshow, where people can bring thngs in to be appraised, then their kids can also bring in collections of things such as shells or something, and they'll give the kids acid-free boxes with cards to fill out and "archive" their collections! sounds pretty cute to me. then also she suggested that i take their docent training in march/april, that that would be a good skill to have going into museum programs. pretty much im having a lot of fun going there and working! the otherday i scanned photos and edited them a little, and they will be going on exhibit in january! i also got into the database program past/perfect where i was inputting slides. it's really a learning experience. mary who is the collections manager is pretty welcoming, and seems to be really trying to make sure that i have experience with a lot of different areas. so i will get to work on a lot of different projects. it's just so much fun, and only makes me want to do this work more and more as a career.
last night my parents were at a holiday party, and they were talking with the host who runs the archives at osu. he said 2 great things, one was that the archives and records management program at western washington is a really good program! (yay makes me happy, cuz i think i have the best chance of getting into this program!) and also that he will have a job opening soon which i should keep my eye open for. cuz it's with osu he can't just hire me, or seek me out or anything, it's gotta be a fair process, but it's a nice heads up that i should apply for this when it is announced! so yay for that possibly.
for the rest of life, not too much, taking the gre's on jan 6th. so i'll need to get my ass into study-mode. when thats over i'll just send off my apps! i emailed my prof at the begining of the week about getting the forms for recommendations to him, because he'd wanted envelopes addressed to the schools but the schools said send them sealed with your app. anyways he gets back to me just after i finally decided to just send him ones addressed to the school. and he says that it's fine for him to send them back to me, and that the history department can cover it for a good major! all i can say is that it totally brightens my day to get that kind of positive feedback from a professor, particularly one who is very involved with the whole graduate process at uo. it really made my day.
well thats about it. of course these last few days have been such fun, because sean's on break now, and doug's not around, so it has been a lot of time spent watching west wing and relaxing. :-D
