Thesis is in rough draft form! Next month involves editing and formatting, but what excitement to actually see that I'll be a graduate. For so long I thought this was just something that I was overwhelming myself with and i had bitten off too much. It's not that I don't love the learning, because I do, I think it has more to do with the assimilation of information I've learned into a practical thesis. What a shift from history to a practical field. Not that history is impractical, more that history is a study field, whereas museums studies is actually more about understanding the field practically and preparation for future employment.
Still the next step involves figuring out a job. I do still really want to work in registration, at least for a museum or on a project that is defined. I have passion for finding things, and organization (so long as it's not my own apartment!)and really enjoy the active task work that registration and collections care involves. However*, I think that fundraising and development are interesting, and education is fun at least when I can develop a rapport with the students. Then to top things off I still have the option, although not particularly enticing to go work back at CAS with greeting and visitor service. I love interacting with people, but after completing a master's degree I don't know if I see myself as a front line persona. Unfortunately (fortunately?) that position pays the same or better than the positions which might more accurately reflect my degree status. Well life moves forward, maybe now I can really have a san francisco life!?!
*I'm a however whore, you should read my thesis!
