Kind of a serial

Apparently this Bryce and Charles story is going to come in installments as that's how my mind is working with it. I have no idea how many of these there will be, but at the end, they will be posted together. Part of why I'm posting as I write is the Nolanverse is hard, but I love it and I appreciate any advice on if I'm getting it or not.

I was listening to The Dark Knight Rises soundtrack on my way to work and the rise chant kept going through my head all day. It helped me to deal with some work weirdness, nothing bad just weird. Also I need to think of a tag for the two of them and I'd welcome any suggestions.

In the meantime, I'm going to post part two of Love is a country best crossed when you're young.

Part one can be found here. Basic set up is Bryce is a rule 63 Nolanverse Batman, Kite is
walksbyherself's amazing OC who is Bryce's ward and Charles is somewhere in X-Men: First Class.

Bryce enjoyed the kiss with Charles, it was a pleasant moment amongst far too much stress and his recommendations about the gene work were helpful. They allowed her to create a plan for Lucius to work on that took advantage of the young scientist’s genius and Charles' pointed comment to ‘get him helping or else he could do a lot of damage.’

Throughout it all, Kite watched her and made biting comments about Charles and his retro look and honesty, apparently his sincerity made Kite more suspicious than anything else about him. They had ended up having a long argument about acting on what you believe and the worst part had been the ending, Kite had quietly said, “You can’t see beyond Gotham. So you stay in your stupid circles of duty and morality going nowhere. Somehow you even find people to help you. Though I think he’s more of a fool than you as he believes evolution is moving towards right. I will make the change I wish to see not wait around for the rest of the world to agree.”

Afterwards, Bryce had sat in the penthouse staring out at Gotham as it went from day to night until Alfred found her and made her tea. He always made her tea even though she rarely drank it before it got cold, but he did. Charles was the same, he kept on caring for her and trying to help even when it wasn’t wanted. Maybe there was a switch some people had that allowed them to turn off empathy, Ras had it, Kite seemed to, but she wasn’t sure if she did. If she was angry then it was simpler, the world became cold and divided into the just and the unjust. Everything else was messy and unhelpful, her purpose was not to correct the rights of the world and heal Gotham just to remind those in the darkest shadows that they were seen.

Charles, Charles wished to brighten the world and remind all that they were loved and belonged. Growing up belonging had been simpler, she was a Wayne which presented a path that was simple and based around making Gotham a better place for all. Then one night that path disappeared in gunfire and she had to forge a new one. No one had ever told Charles his path was foolish or if they had, he didn’t listen. She had heard the way his voice changed when he talked of Erik, of all they might build but he had yet to see how such trust could destroy you. He would meet his Joker, his Harvey Dent and start to understand that the world didn’t take kindly to heroes. And yet, she had kissed him and while the taste of him had faded, the memory hadn’t quite, it was hard to recall when she had last had a kiss like that. It must have been when she was younger, when kind boys or Rachel tried to show her that life was worth living with softness and warmth. His kiss hadn’t asked for anything in return, she had begun it but if she hadn’t known him, she would almost think him confused by it. It might be worth doing again if there was a need for it.
