I have really needed a vacation though my worries keep creeping in. Last night I dreamed that I was sort of like Lou from The Young Riders but also mixed up in a performance for something. There was lots of rushing about and trying to get things done, but I have been sleeping a lot.
Today I got out of the house to spend some time at a cafe and do some shopping, I love my friend but cabin fever can creep up on me quickly. In some nice news, through my work email, there are these really nice emails from other people there that remind me that I am valued and seen. Its just not by those in charge, but I am.
Now I don't usually post snippets but my writing at this point seems to be in bursts. Things get started and go so far then stop and start on me. Its just how I am now with life, I don't feel like I've figured out how to live this life I currently have.
This is a complete part of something that I hope will be bigger, but I want to share it with those who inspired it. Now over in
panfandomsandbox,
adiva_calandia plays this rule 63 Nolanverse Batman, Bryce Wayne who is amazing. She and Charles have this complicated, prickly and frankly weird relationship that I love and need to have at least one fic where they sleep with each other. So I decided to start a fic with that in mind, but it took a sharp right turn as soon as I started.
I will write them together just once, they are not meant for romance but I can see them both hurting and needing. This is a long way of saying that I wrote something with the two of them and a guest appearance by
walksbyherself's Kite that I really want to share. I think this will end up having more, it feels like a story of snapshots while other fic will come along.
The current title is from The Wallflowers new album and feels far too apt for them.
The first time they kissed, it was part of an act that he didn’t appreciate being a part of. She needed to be Bryce Wayne and talk to some scientists and he was her pet scientist with an assumption that he was more. He stood at her side in the suit he wore for his dissertation presentation and whispered in her ear the lies and twists. She trusted him, but to use him and it hurt. Yet he found it hard to turn her down because she was like Erik, she didn’t know how to ask for the help she truly needed, but instead for what she thought Gotham needed. The meeting was giving him a headache as no one was honest, which was normal, it was the layers of dishonesty that weren’t.
When they finally reached the lab, he relaxed and Bryce gave him a look as she felt his tension ease as he began to talk to the young scientist who beamed at him. They were able to talk to adaptation and creation and all that was possible with an understanding of the genome.
He felt Bryce’s sigh before he heard it and took his arm, “Darling, you brilliant men are boring the rest of us who can’t keep up. Its time for some lunch out in the light.”
“Yes, of course, do you have a copy of your newest reports that I could look over?”
The scientist put them into Charles’ hands and he knew that was what Bryce wanted, the truth in the data and what it could do. As they moved away from the lab, she walked closer to him as she babbled to the board members of worries about the company, some truths and lies, around a corner, her ward, Kite came into sight.
Kite was sharp edges that pretended to be smooth and she brought the darkness in Bryce to the surface. He knew that of late things had been bad between them and as Bryce’s grip on him tightened, he was reassured that Kite wasn’t meant to be here. Bryce smiled at Kite, a smile full of sharp edges and her inner mantra grew louder until it pressed on Charles, “I didn’t expect to see you here today.”
“Oh, I decided that I would stop by to meet your newest pet scientist. Charles, isn’t it?”
He took a deep breath before answering Kite, who he had met before, but briefly, she thought he cheated and her shields were stronger than Bryce’s, “Yes, its nice to meet you again. Should I leave you two to go to lunch? I’ve got data to play with.”
As he said it, he ran his hand along Bryce’s face and kissed her cheek, projecting into her mind; Relax, you have control.
Her eyes widened and she met his gaze before kissing him on the lips, carefully, but he felt that there was sincerity within the kiss then released him, “Yes, that would be best. I’ll come find you. I know your hiding places.”
He didn’t wish to leave her but the message was clear and he nodded before turning down a hall and finding a door. She would never cease to surprise him, he never thought she wished to kiss him.
