The night air was cool upon one side of Ianto's face. The other side was pillowed against something soft. He moved his head slightly, feeling the fleeting roughness under his cheek, and smiled as recognized the oh so familiar texture of Jack's greatcoat. A sudden inhalation, and his nostrils were filled with the scent of Jack Harkness, muted slightly by the cold Cardiff air.
Ianto shifted slightly in his seat, frowning as he felt cold metal beneath him. He knew he should open his eyes; check his surroundings for signs of danger. But Jack was beside him; Jack's arm was around him, holding him close. Whatever peril there was, he would not be facing it alone.
"Ianto?" the voice was soft but insistent. "Ianto, you still awake?" There was now a note of concern and Ianto could feel the arm tightening around him shaking him gently. "You have to stay awake."
"Am awake," mumbled Ianto. He tried to push away from Jack, but couldn't. "What's the matter?" he forced his eyes open and tried to sit up straight, only for his surroundings to lurch alarmingly.
"Easy there," said Jack, his voice at its most reassuring. "We need to stay still until the Firemen come get us."
"Oh hell," groaned Ianto, clutching at Jack. "I thought I was only dreaming." He looked around the fairground, or rather, looked down from his vantage point at the top of the stationary Ferris Wheel.
"Fraid not," said Jack, a grin on his face. "They still haven't managed to fix it, so they've called in the Fire service to get us down. It shouldn't be longer than half an hour, forty minutes tops."
Ianto settled gloomily back into his seat. "I told you we should have gone on the Carousel, but oh no, you wanted to go on the Ferris Wheel so we could sit together."
"Actually I just wanted to be able to make out with you in comfort."
"You call this comfort? This seat is uncomfortable, not to mention very precariously balanced, and I'm freezing my arse off, I..."
"But isn't the view worth it?"
Ianto glanced down, then closed his eyes with a shudder, "Not really, no."
"It is from where I'm sitting," said Jack, leaning in and kissing him.
