Atheists

As some of you might know, I'm an atheist, and proud of it. Until now, I thought christians (and people of other religions), felt rather neutral about atheists.

Well, that changed, dramatically. I was watching 30 Days, the atheist episode, in which an atheist woman moves into a christian family for 30 days. During the show, they went to the streets, and asked people what do they think when they hear the word "Atheist". Here are what they said;
"Atheist..? I think they need help" - What do we need help for, once we've learned to think on our own?

"In my honest opinion..I think they're very shallow." How are we shallow? We just do not believe in the excistence of a God or gods. I don't think thinking differently about something like religion is shallow...

"Atheists...Yes I have judgements about it... I think they're narrow-minded." Again, we are not narrow minded, for we are thinking differently. On our own. Looking outside the box, you know. I'd sya Christians are the narrow-minded here; they're the ones who don't dare to think outside the box.

"Communism, Russians" ...What??

Besides these (ridicilous) claims, they say that atheists are stated as the least trusted people. It also says, that we were less trustable than illegal immigrants, muslims and homosexuals. Just to remind you...I can't recall any situation in which Atheists would've done any significant harm. (9/11, anyone?)

They also said, that according to a survey, out of all the people, parents would want the least their child to marry an atheist. And they would not vote a politician who doesn't believe in God.

I just think this is shocking. Not once in my life I've been negatively affected by the fact that I'm an atheist. Some of my classmates were curious about my lessons while their religion lessons, some where a little confused. Never outraged or pissed off. The same thing is with my relatives, and friend's families. They usually were just curious.

End of whining, this time. (Plus your opinion (bith positive and negative) about Atheists is welcome, I'm quite curious what the "real world" thinks of people like me.

Sorry if I ate your flist ):

And btw; Only eight days until my birthday!

Oh wait school starts tomorrow...So less time for the internets ):
