Do ornaments come in skull shapes? Those would be much more interesting than all these round ones.

[ Amongst all the forgetting and sadness, there is one house that looks to have bucked the dreary trend. Amaimon has taken the giant tree the town has as its own Christmas tree as a ( Read more... )

[Aurora was passing by, but stops to admire the tree. She breaks out into a smile at the little green men, too.]

O-Oh! How cute!

[It's the best tree, isn't it? She has good taste to stop and admire it.]

Hm? [He looks away from waving the little plant spirits around.] What is?

The little, um... [She doesn't know what they are, so she just points to them.] Them!

Oh. The Greenmen. [He looks back up at the tree.] Hmmm. I suppose they are...

[Many of the sentient inhabitants of Mayfield had negelected to decorate this year. They were too focused on other things.]

[This is why it is surprising to see gaudily arrayed house with a tree being decorated by cute little plant men. Bazett can only stop and stare at the house.]

It must have taken a lot of work...

[That's right. Be amazed by his tree. It is the best one.]

Not really. You just wrap everything in lights. That isn't particularly difficult.

But...you did so much...

[The only way it would be more impressive is if he used magecraft to make it sing and dance or something.]

And are you sure you should be working on this tree when we are clearly in the middle of a crisis?

I made the greenmen do most of it. There are as many as I want there to be.

[Singing and dancing more his brother's thing, sorry.]

Crisis? [Staaare.] What crisis?

[what is it with people in Mayfield and their tendency to put gaudy, horrible things in their yard around Christmas time!! he pauses in his walk to squint up at the giant tree and the bizarre things decorating it before looking over to Amaimon.]

...Is there a point to this?

[Sup Charles, your weird friend actually looks like a demon now and not just some human dude. He stops chewing on a candy cane and looks at the tree thoughtfully for a moment before turning to him and answering.]

Observing the rest of the town, I came to the conclusion that to be the best at Christmas you must have the most stuff in your yard.

[He is going to win at this holiday so hard. Aw yeah.]

[well that's some wild aesthetic change. for his part, though, he's doing a pretty good job in not showing much surprise. people turn into trolls at random, at least Amaimon doesn't have grey skin...

but wow he's getting quite the boggled stare now.] How in the world did you come to that conclusion? And why is being the supposed best at Christmas even a concern of yours? [but he is moseying a little closer to get a better look at the tree decorating things...]

[Oh how he missed his pointy ears and long sharp nails and... well. All of it. Just be glad it's a formality for demons of his tier to hide their tail or Charles would be dealing with that as well.]

By watching all the other houses decorate. From the tree they put up in the middle of the town. The holiday shows on the television. [Isn't it obvious, Charles? C'mon, man, pay attention.] Because I am trying to understand human customs. They are curious things...

[And one or two of the tree decorating things stop to look back at him, even wave at him. They're awfully friendly looking little plant dudes.]

That would defeat the point of Christmas.

[Lucky for Izumo, with Rin having vanished himself, he hasn't even the faintest idea of who you are.

Not that he would have really recalled what any of the boring exwires sounded like anyway...]

It would? Why?

[She's erased, too, so that's doubly covered! This is just Izumo childishly antagonizing Amaimon without repercussions while she has the chance.]

Christmas is about the birth of Jesus, moron.

I am not a moron! [Except he'll likely recall this conversation and voice later, if and when the town fixes itself. Watch it.] If Christmas is all about that, then why does everything have a big fat man on it instead?

Do humans think Jesus is a big fat man now?

[no, really. is he behind on the times again here?]

[Huh.]

I thought skulls were good for any occasion.

Well, I don't really know... I didn't celebrate Halloween back home. I only learned about it when I came to Mayfield.

Then you can't really say they would not suit a Christmas tree.

I could paint them red and gold. It would look very classy.
