Gluten-free pretzel (marzipan figure bone) substitute?

So... I was talking to the friend whose wedding is this June. Her style is generally very simple and clean and crisp while still being feminine, so I was sort of expecting that the cake would be much more clean-cut and unassuming and quieter than most previous cakes, which I would be okay with despite my dear love of doing wacky things in miniature... until today, when she said, after I'd mentioned my idea of white icing fancywork over blue-ish-grey smooth fondant, imitating a really cool dandelion-puffball screenprinted shirt she wears:

"Well, speaking of dandelions, there's this weed-killing flamethrower... It was a Valentine's Day present, so, really, it's awfully romantic..."

Oh. My. Goodness. Clean cut, tidy, unassuming, gently feminine cake... topped with tiny dandelions and a bride and groom killing them off with flamethrowers?

I am, just maybe, excited about this idea. Granted, it's more than five months 'til the wedding, so who knows what's going to happen, and more ideas will supplant this, and she'll likely think of something different she'd rather have instead, so I shouldn't get too excited, but miniature dandelions? With flowers? Bride and groom figures stepping on them? ****TINY FLAME THROWERS MADE FROM FONDANT???!!!****

I suppose I am failing at this not-being-excited thing. It shall probably not happen. But in case it does, does anyone have any gluten-free ideas for bone structure? I've been using hard-baked homemade pretzels (as standing/active marzipan figurines require more support than brittle-ish chocolate, my previous favorite, can quite give), but it would be optimal to have the whole topper be gluten-free, "bones" and all. After the mini scuba gear, I'm pretty confident that the flame throwers themselves won't be too hard, except I'll have to experiment heavily to get the flame right. Anyway, that's all. Anyone have ideas for dem bones?

(flame throwers!)

(yay!)
