per max's request, i'm writing my weekend update.
friday night katy and i drove up to chicago, and despite some traffic, an adventure on the southside, and a handful of wrong turns on my part, we made it in decent time and without any tollroads. we stayed at karolyn's which was lovely.
saturday morning we set off for the show. hung out with lana, tracy, and becca, and ran into laura. saw:
- the redwalls
- m83
- ...and you will know us by the trail of dead - which was a fantastic set. we were up very close and the lead singer went crazy and was bleeding and then broke all the instruments and several band members were almost decapitated by flying mics.
- one kaiser cheifs song, then much of the liz phair set
- brian jonestown massacre
- cake - one of the best sets i saw, so so good
- part of billy idol, a couple blonde redhead songs - i met this crazy woman when i was looking for everyone i had lost and she told me i wasn't allowed to leave. so we danced to billy idol and i nodded as she talked to me and i couldn't hear here, and then she told me several times that she would never forget our time together and how it was so so fun hanging out. so funny.
- the black keys - one of the bands i was most excited to see at the whole show, and one of the best sets i saw also. i have such a crush on dan, he's so amazing.
- the pixies
- a minute of weezer, the digable planets - digable planets was so awesome.
day 2 (102 degrees), withouth tdiz and becca, but with max
- the cathedrals
- saul williams - a short set but possibly my favorite. i was so excited to hear he was there this year and his energy was so amazing. and he's so beautiful. i enjoyed all of it and have to see him again.
- half of kasabian
halfway through we decided that it was too hot to be in the sun, so we sat in the shade and listened to dinosaur jr., satellite party, and drive-by truckers.
- arcade fire - so so good, but a short set.
- spoon
- dandy warhols - also good. it was cool by then and the sun wasn't oppressive anymore, and they were so good. and then anton from bjm came on and they jammed and it was funny, though no drama.
- deathcab
we went out to dinner with max after, left the next morning, went to btown, lunch with ryan, a stop by scotty's, and came back here. all in all it was a fantastic weekend and the best money i've spent in a long time.
