Basically, those three words describe my life.
Riding:
Horses (anything and everything ... mostly green) usually three or more times a week. Pass is "testing" everyone. Friday he bolted and bucked with me. No reasons apparent, just to be an ass (I assume). Sunday he dragged Krista around the indoor and wouldn't respond to pressure on the ground. How awkward. Monday he broke free of Krista as she was trying to teach him to independently enter the wash stalls.
He bolted.
Into the lake on the North end of Campus.
The other greenies are doing just fine. Christian takes turns riding True (Krista's old but spunky Thoroughbred), Taylor-Pony, and Flash (a greenie who acts like riding is old hat). It's fun. My ass is definitely sore.
Bikes. I tallied up how often/far Christian and I ride in a week. On average: 60 + miles. This includes trips to the grocery store, trips to St. Mary's, trips to work/post office/bar, and trips to the gym. Wow. We almost never touch our cars (accept for this week, but it's mostly paid for).
While my legs are screaming for a rest day, I can't really afford to give them a complete one. Oh well, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger right? Wasn't that the old X-C team motto?
Running:
My mileage here has had to slack off due to the sheer volume of biking. Though, I still manage a pretty decent showing when I do don the gear and move my feet. Last week I ran a decent enough 5k, and a pretty spankin' good 5 miler. It's sad though. Where my running averages before were close to 8min-miles, now they are close to 10. I suppose I should go down to run/walking, that would boost me back up to a higher pace endurance.
Reading:
Jesus, have I been reading. The Moor's Last Sigh by Salman Rushdie was the latest conquest. An engrossing story told by a somewhat unreliable narrator, who likes to make the reader jump to conclusions. The book did an excellent job making me re-evaluate judgements and practice objectively staying out of stories/issues until all sides have been addressed and a judgement can be made with express knowlege of the decision. It's a good lesson. I appreciate it. Plus, the story was good.
Christian has an interview tomorrow with Makino in Mason (Cinncinnati), Ohio. He is taking my car, and leaving this afternoon. I am hitching a ride to Indy, where I will spend a couple of days catching up with friends (YAY KEVIN!) and my mother/grandmother. Thursday is apparently a garage sale at my mother's, which I will be working. If you have ever wanted to buy a relic of Austen's childhood ... head on out on Thursday morning. Maybe I'll cut you a deal?
