Basil, the cat.

Our dear friend Basil died last night in the comfort of her home. She was a most unusual companion.. she lived 22 years. I will get out the pictures albums from about when I think she came to live here and see how old she was.
ETA She came to live with us in 1990.
She and her brother, Sage, were from a neighbor's cat and you can still see cats of that family around in the area. Lots of cat cousins, you might say.

Basil had amazing soft silky fur and she had a sweet demeanor. When my kids were little they wore her like a scarf...wrapped around their necks and she would stay there...she seemed to like it as much as the kids did. She became my loyal companion and was nearby and would perch herself near my chair while i was sitting and knitting. Had to be careful not to step on her or infringe on her space. She assisted me in all my gardening duties, too.

She spent a lot of time by the Christmas tree this year...can you imagine the memories she has of 23 years of Christmases in a house with four kids?

I will be lost for awhile to not be looking for her hidden places and sunny spots. She could always make herself look cozy. It is surprising how many times a day you check to see where your pets are and now I'll miss that. She has been in the background of our lives for so many years!

RIP, Basil, and run in the fields with Sage, Obi, Meesha, Big Kitty, Little Kitty, Orange kitty, Fluffy, Duchess, and the rest of the cats and Triseca, Timber, and Clipper, the dogs.
Peace
