My weekend was a little overly exciting - & unfortunately, not in the good way. But on the plus side, I'm mostly fine. I've got a nicely sprained left thumb. And some lovely bruises on my left knee & hip, along with a good dose of stiff & sore. There's also a scorch mark on the stove & a completely destroyed potholder & kitchen towel. Oh & my bike is in the shop.
So, Saturday M & I were heading down Gough after our ride in the N. Bay (which was nice & mellow & pretty by the way). I was in the left lane & a bitch driving a gold mercedes in the middle lane suddenly decided she needed to turn left. Directly in front of me. I grabbed my front brake & the next thing I know I've landed on my right hip & knee & I'm sliding across the ground in the intersection. According to M, the driver slowed down a bit & then kept going.
M helped me get my bike up (my left hand is pretty useless for grabbing right now without the use of the thumb). I managed to limp the bike a few blocks until we realized the rear brake was rubbing. At that point we were pretty near Scuderia, so M got it so the brake wouldn't rub & we took the bike there (or he did - I couldn't grab the clutch anymore).
The folks at Scuderia were awesome. They commiserated with me. Brought me ice, so I could ice my thumb. And let me sit down in the office while I waited for M to bring the car around (as his bike doesn't have passenger pegs).
My bike is a bit worse off than I am - although, with the exception of the rear brake, it may just all be cosmetic. I went down on the right side & the tank is pretty badly dented on that side. The rear brake peg was smashed all the way 'round (& the brake bashed up against the wheel). The right blinker is shot. And lots of other assorted scrapes.
My jacket, also doesn't look that great - rather torn up at the bottom (brand new too!). But I'm really happy I was wearing all my gear - especially pants with the hip & knee armor. And that all things considered - it wasn't that bad.
On Sunday (& you can file this one under pure stupidity), as I was soaking some of the stiff/sore out in the bath, I was heating a kettle for more hot water on the stove. Door to the bathroom closed. No fire alarm in the kitchen.
Came out to check on the water. And found the potholder merrily burning on the stove. Potholder & kitchen towel used to put out the fire, completely destroyed, leaving a nice scorch mark on the stove (I'm going to enjoy explaining that one to the landlords).
On the plus side of the ledger:
I got my new glasses on Friday & they're pretty damn cute.
Saturday night I attended a lovely bachelorette party with some of my favorite women. Tasty food, good company & dancing (much needed after my day).
Sunday evening was Sunday Night Dinner - more tasty food, good friends & gentle hugs.
M was a champ & took really good care of me all weekend. Including bringing toasted cheese sandwiches for me to munch on as I soaked in the hot bath after the accident on Saturday.
Damn, but I'm lucky that my weekend didn't turn out worse. And I thank whoever was looking out for me, because I obviously needed a wee bit of help!
weekend,
