Reading: Myrren's Gift and Warbreaker

So, I finished reading Myrren's Gift, Book 1 of the Quickening trilogy. I really enjoyed the story and the characters. I did have some issues with the writing. Fiona McIntosh jumps around from head to head throughout the book, often multiple times on the same page, let alone the same scene. I've become so accustomed to very tight third person that her writing style was a bit jarring. Also, some of the descriptions of why or how the characters reacted the way they did just seemed oddly written to me. I'm not sure exactly how to describe what I mean. It just seemed there were many unnecessary additional sentences that didn't need to be there.

Overall, though I enjoyed the book quite a bit. I read through the second half pretty quickly. McIntosh did an excellent job of writing it so you don't want to put the book down. I will definitely be reading the next two books. I'm curious to see how this will all turn out. I have my suspicions and I want to see if I'm right.

Next, I started reading Brandon Sanderson's Warbreaker. This is good. I mean really good. The whole concept of BioChromatic power (breath power and color) is quite interesting. And anytime there's a sentient sword scores high marks with me.

I'm about 160 pages in and am hooked. Sanderson really is growing into an excellent writer. I'm hoping to be able to finish reading this tomorrow.
