In wandering the Internet today I came across the following excerpts:
The Ten Thousand by Paul Kearney
Here's the opening chapter provided by Solaris Books:
The Ten Thousand - Chapter One All I can say is "Wow!" I've been hearing about this book for a while and after reading the opening I will be buying this real soon and it will be going near the top of my TBR pile.
And, even though it is still a while away, there is an excerpt available for The Wise Man's Fear, the sequel to The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. It seems Pat's Fantasy Hotlist was able to secure permission to reprint this excerpt:
The Wise Man's Fear excerpt I have yet to read the first book (I've been holding off on first person readings but this story is making a strong case for me to put that aside.) I was able to take a look at The Name of the Wind at an airport late last year and Rothfuss is an outstanding writer. And, after reading this snippet from the second book it's obvious his talent is there.
By the way, I'm currently reading The Summoner by Gail Z. Martin. So far I'm enjoying it quite a bit. I'm over 200 pages in and it flows quite nicely. Each scene slowly reveals the abilities of the main character to the reader as the character himself is learning about them. So far there has yet to be a scene where things happen just to happen. Each scene has a purpose and builds upon the previous events. I have book 2 waiting to be read and book 3 on pre-order.
