So this animal Assad is finally showing his true colors by massacring protesters all the way into the Omari mosque in which the wounded were seeking refuge. The Umeyyad mosque in Damascus seems to be next - I hope the world is watching, but the information blackout in Syria is second only to the brutality of the regime

I'd be rather pessimistic. Here in the US the top billing goes to
1) Did Obama act unconstitutionally in getting the US involved in Libya?
2) How do the US get out of the Libyan involvement, and how soon?
3) Are we going to get radiation from Japan?
4) How good is the new season of Dancing with the Stars?

I only know about what's going on in Syria because I found one blog post by an Egyptian that was linked on Andrew Sullivan's blog (the Daily Dish). And that was on Friday. I haven't noticed a whisper on any TV or MSM program since then.

I'm not too surprised to hear this, though still disgusted. US posing itself as the champion of freedom and democracy, but when a dozen or so countries in the ME rise up to take their freedom without anybody's help, it's radio silence in the US.
Then again one has to remember there's no news channels there, only infotainment broadcasting what they think will sell best to the audience.

Actually, it was on the front page of the New York Times website today. If you watch TV news in the US, yes, you'll be quite ill-informed. Reading works wonders, though.

U.S. journalists do not equal government do not equal TV poseurs and celebrities.

P.S. Apparently the U.S. only defends citizens of countries where there will be no opposition from the Saudis in doing so.

Thanks for the link. I've still seen nothing about Syria on anything except the Daily Dish, although to be fair Bahrain and Yemen have figured in the news reports fairly frequently. And of course Libya and before that Egypt received intensive coverage.

And the fact that the US government has said almost nothing about Saudi Arabia sending in the army to Bahrain has gotten more than a few people upset.

And there is a practical reason for the US dithering--the fear that jihadi groups will come out on top when all is said and done--and compared to that a genocidal secular terrorist doesn't seem quite so bad, if you're the US.
